Do More Of What Makes You Happy

I’m not sure who originally said the title quote, but it’s hard to disagree…

When I think about what’s most important to me, it isn’t money, it isn’t anything material, it’s not even family or friends. Even though all of those things are very important, especially family and friends, none of them would exist without TIME. Yes, time is most important.

Our time is so precious, we only have so much of it, so we might as well choose to be happy.

Where Are You Spending Your Time:

We spend around 20% of our time in life at work. Whoa! That’s a big number.

It’s easy to get caught up in the rat race, work, bills, weekend,  rinse and repeat.

How often do you take a step back and observe your daily and weekly routines? What are you doing and is it what makes you happy?

The only person who can make you happy is yourself. You can choose to enjoy each and every moment.

Of course, life isn’t always that simple, or is it? What if you started making choices to do things that made you happy? Don’t like your job, find a new one in a line of work that you enjoy. Even if it requires a little more work or learning a new skill set, isn’t it worth it if you enjoy what you’re doing?

Who Are You Spending Time With:

Don’t like the people around you, then start hanging out with new people.

It doesn’t mean you have to excommunicate people from your life but you can choose how much time and energy you want to spend on them.

Take a chance! Maybe it means skipping the bar with your friends this weekend and volunteering for a good cause, or taking a new friend on a hike, or to the beach, or a baseball game. All great ways to meet new people.

What Are You Doing With Your Time:

What sort of activities are you pursuing? I used to go to the bar every weekend with my friends, but my life was literally a rat race. It wasn’t making me happy.

So one weekend, I went on a beautiful hike with a new group of friends. Well, I learned that I love hiking, I met a lot of new people, I felt much better because I wasn’t hungover and I had a lot more money in the bank because hiking is free 🙂

Point being, you do have a choice. Sometimes you might make the wrong choice and that’s ok, learn from it and keep doing more of what makes you happy.

I leave you with a quote:

Robert DeNiro said, “Time goes on. So whatever you’re going to do. Do it. Do it now. Don’t wait.”

Oh, and the picture below is from that weekend hike. I’m the little spec on the edge of that cliff…
